Cookies Galore

One of the favorite annual cookie/ornament/ toy drive event occurred this month at one of the newer Social-Lites Janis Tummler’s beautiful home overlooking North Lake.

Chocolate chip, brownies, red velvet mini cakes were just a few of the delicious treats that some ladies brought to share. This year some decided to think outside the cookie jar and make some new choices and was very tasty. Did I mention if you brought some delicacies you got to take some your favorites home…

The ornament exchange is always fun to see who opens the most unique or funniest trinket. This year Madame Social-Lite, Lacey Jones, made sure you got to keep the ornament you most cherished as you could only steal it once which guaranteed if you wanted to keep yours it was a done deal. The local fire department received a huge box filled with new toys for all our local children that are in need of a little extra love this season.

Now, who doesn’t LOVE candy?! Mark you calendars for February 10th for Cupid’s Cherished Candy Exchange. Love is in air and Cupid wants to shower friends and family with some of your favorite candy treats! We will meet at 6:30 PM at the fabulous home of Barbara Jean Ormsby.

We’ll dine on yummy appetizers and beverages while we “shop to swap” delicious homemade candy or inspired retail candy gift sets to cherish for your own delight or to give to an adored loved one or friend. Please bring a disposable platter or basket of homemade candy, such as peanut brittle, fudge, white or dark chocolate bark, pralines, chocolate turtles or other revered family candy recipe… or bring a fine boxed candy such as See’s, Russell Stover or Whitman’s….or…..even assemble a decorative gift basket of all-time candy favorites.

Charlie Brown Parade

The Silver Lakes Association recreation team put on another great holiday parade. This year the theme was Charlie Brown. Marta Kraemer told me she was over joyed with all the participation with this event.

The major streets were over run by floats of Snoopy, golf carts of Lucy’s, classic cars, marching bands and the beautiful dancing style show horses.

Families lined up along the sidewalks to watch the parade and of course the kids dashed out to grab candy being tossed out. I usually watch from North Beach where the parade starts but this year decided to watch with friends by my house and have to say I enjoyed it more.

Music Through The Decades

Before the school winter break I had the privilege of attending the ACE Fine Arts Show “Music Through The Decades,” directed by vocal teacher, Mrs. Puryear and dance teacher, Mrs. Jami Wiseman Graham.

The students sang and danced numbers from the 1800’s to current pop and could not forget a few holiday themes as well. The crowd was responsive to the classic 1980’s Michael Jackson “Thriller Mash,” as the light effects and dance routine was fun. One of my favorite of the night was “Thinking Out Loud,” danced by Gabby McGinnis and Salvador Sanchez it was like watching the video. We have quite a lot of talented young teens in our community.

Scratchin Happy

That is exactly how I am feeling now that Silver Lakes has their very own amazing bakery/ café “Scratch.”
It was funny as I went by opening day and was trying desperately to interview owner/chef Tammy Russell and she said she did not expect so many people. I laughed and said “Are you kidding, you have premium espresso coffee drinks, home made soup de jour and organic meat and cheese sandwiches, and the best of all is you have, made from scratch, the best pastries and desserts around for 100 miles!”

As I am writing this all I can think about is their Cherry Danish as I vow my taste buds it is the best you will have ever tried. Don’t get me started on the Italian Crème Cake as that melts in your mouth and big enough for two. My mother is from Belgium and when I had her taste the almond croissant she said it took her home. The cinnamon roll was soft in the middle, crunchy on the sides and the cream cheese icing perfection. Okay, okay I had to sample some of the goodies so I could write my article.

WiFi ready, tables aligned to enjoy the view of North Lake or my favorite spot, right in front of the lighted glass showcase of fresh decadent desserts.
I saved the best for last as they take special orders of cupcakes, cakes, pies and I’m sure almost anything you desire as Tammy and Ron have studied tirelessly at Cordon Bleu and they’re desserts taste like they graduated top of their class.
